Glasses for Space These AR Glasses were developed to modernize the AR technology used by NASA in the ISS for a more comfortable experience for the astronauts while fixing equipment and fullfilling tasks.
Designed on Solidworks. Rendered using KeyShot.
01 Research
Outdated Technology
The AR headsets on the ISS do not have the latest advancements on AR technology and lack more real-life projections in comparison to simulated realities.
No Noise Protection
The ISS and space is said to be very noisy, the current headsets do not offer any ear protection making it necessary for the astronaunts to wear earphones.
02 Ideation
How might we enhance the technology and comfort for astronaunts using AR Glasses at the ISS?
Idea
The idea was to create a modern aesthetic AR Glasses with new technology that allows for clear transparent overlays to help make the repair process easier for astronaunts. Moreover, including an attachment or body that would cover the ears to reduce their pain from the noise at the ISS.
Refinement
The refinement for the final AR Headset included planning for components that would be part of its internal system. This sketch was an idea of placing the components at the top of the band, but ultimately I ended up nesting them on the side of the body.
